Get ready to see more driverless cars on the road now that the California Department of Motor Vehicles has approved testing without a person behind the steering wheel.

This is the first time autonomous vehicles will be tested on California roads without a human being in the driver's seat.

Under the new state rules, a human driver no longer has to be inside the car during tests, but a remote operator must be ready to take the controls from afar in the event of an emergency.
