Since the Nuremberg Trials, the United States has often been at the forefront of holding war criminals accountable and fighting genocide. But some critics wonder whether the war on terror has undermined America’s moral authority. A new book, “Hiding in Plain Sight,” examines that tension as it traces the dramatic pursuit of fugitive war criminals from World War II to the present day. We talk to two of the book’s authors.

The war on terror is bogus ‘it is war against the American people to use fear to steal their assets and civil liberties ,as well to have Americans accept none ending perpetual wars in the middle east and elsewhere ,that whole thing was created and initiated by the NEOCONS who have stranglehold of the U S government from Reagan time till today……….The fact is all of the U S presidents and government officials have committed massive number of war crimes and that includes all from GH Bush ,Bill Clinton ,GW Bush ,and Obama ,as well all of the NEOCONS including ,Dick Cheany , James Ramsfield , Paul Wolfwitz ,Richard Perle ,Eliot Abrams ,Stephen Hadley ,Tont Blair and near 50 others….All must be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity…..They also responsible for the creation of terrorists groups including ISIL by supplying them with money and arms.

Just so you know, in English grammar, the space comes AFTER the comma, not BEFORE.

      • EIDALM

I know that very well ,I posted that just in near totally dark room ,be real ,talk about substance not trivial issues ,Again I speak four different languages ,how about you.

The war on terror is bogus ‘it is really a war against the American people to use fear to steal their assets and civil liberties ,as well to have Americans accept none ending perpetual wars in the middle east and elsewhere ,that whole thing was created and initiated by the NEOCONS who have stranglehold of the U S government from Reagan time till today……….The fact is all of the U S presidents and government officials have committed massive number of war crimes and that includes all from GH Bush ,Bill Clinton ,GW Bush ,and Obama ,as well all of the NEOCONS including ,Dick Cheany , James Ramsfield , Paul Wolfwitz ,Richard Perle ,Eliot Abrams ,Stephen Hadley ,Tont Blair and near 50 others….All must be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity…..They also responsible for the creation and support of terrorists groups including ISIL by supplying them with money and arms.

I think it’s more nuanced than that: there actually are terrorist groups, that being a reasonable (using the term amorally) strategy in an asymmetric conflict, and also attractive to fanatics who don’t believe that people not in their particular sect are really people.

I have no doubt that this in turn has been taken-advantage-of by people in power, and for a very similar reason: people in conflict tend to use whatever weapons available.

I wonder if prof. Eric Stover is aware of the NEOCONS long history of their planned genocidal invasion of all countries of the middle east from the 1992 Wolfwitz doctrine ,to the 1998 Project for New American Century ,98 pages ,in which on page 52 they wrote we need a new Perle Harbor ,meaning we need that to convince the American people to go into their perpetual

wars in the middle east ,and soon enough we had the 911 incident please ask prof. Stover what is his thought on that….He may get real insight on this by watching the BBC video of Adam Curtis THE POWER OF NIGHTMARES which totally expose the NEOCONS well planed invasion of all countries in the middle east by using fear and lies ,the video exposes the similarity and connection between them and the bogus Muslim terrorists including Alqaeda and other….Please watch it is worth itself in gold

I see that both your guests are from UC Berkeley School of Law.
Currently, John Yoo (author of the notorious Bush-era ‘torture memos’) holds the Emanuel S. Heller chair at UC Berkeley School of Law.

What does John Yoo’s academic position at UC Berkeley say about American accountability for committing torture and associated war crimes? What does it say about UC Berkeley School of Law?

    • Robert Thomas

Professor Yoo is a blemish on the University of California, the state of California and on the nation.

He should be under arrest in The Hague.

    • Mason Gibb

Well, my question was somewhat castrated for radio–but I suppose I’m glad it was aired in an edited form.
Though, sadly the interviewer did not choose to follow up, asking if the evidence released in the Senate’s ‘torture report’ may have been enough to link Yoo to torture and war crimes.

  • Ben Rawner

Would what happen at Abu Ghairb be considered a war crime because they were enemy combatants? Dud anybody serve jail time for that situation?

    • Robert Thomas

Specialist Charles A. Graner, Jr. was “… sentenced to 10 years in prison, demotion to private, dishonorable discharge and forfeiture of pay and allowances. Charges of adultery and obstruction of justice were dropped before trial. On August 6, 2011, Graner was released from the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas after serving six and a half years of his ten-year sentence.”
“Specialist Lynndie England “… was sentenced to three years in prison and dishonorably discharged from the army, and served her prison sentence from 2005 to 2007, when she was released on parole.”
“Four guards and two low-level military intelligence officers made plea deals in the case. Their sentences ranged from no time to 8 1⁄2 years. No officers have gone to trial, though several received administrative punishment.” -WP, “Charles Graner”, “Lynndie England”

      • Robert Thomas

Specifically, Graner was “… convicted of conspiracy to maltreat detainees, failing to protect detainees from abuse, cruelty, and maltreatment, as well as charges of assault, indecency, and dereliction of duty.”
“England was convicted on … one count of conspiracy, four counts of maltreating detainees and one count of committing an indecent act.” ibid.

    • Mason Gibb

I feel compelled to recommend Seymour Hersh’s book on the prison, as well as Alfred McCoy’s research (U. of Madison).

  • Skip Conrad

There is a new perspective on the Holocaust being promoted by revisionist historians. Can you comment?

  • Robert Thomas

The place-name is “Nuremberg”, not “Nurenberg”.

  • EIDALM

This discussion was wrong ,so instead of dealing with the real war criminals which includes all of the U S recent presidents ,you talked about bunch of stupid criminals terrorists created and supported by the U S ,dealing with those terrorists should have been a police matter ,that is way the U S bogus war on terror have been total failure…..This two guests have hidden agenda and white washing the real war criminals in the U S who has the blood of millions on their from GH Bush , GW BUSH ,to Bill and Hilary Clinton , Barak Obama. as well as all of their NEOCONS puppet masters ,Wolfwitz and the rest..
