Last month, environmental groups filed a lawsuit challenging the longtime practice of cattle ranching at Point Reyes National Seashore. The lawsuit claims that park officials are violating federal law by renewing leases for ranchers in the park without studying the environmental impact of the cattle. The ranchers, in turn, argue that they helped protect Point Reyes from development in the first place. This suit comes two years after a Point Reyes oyster company tried unsuccessfully to renew its longtime lease. We’ll discuss the lawsuit.
