When tennis champion Billie Jean King came out as a lesbian in 1981, she lost all of her endorsement deals within 24 hours. But when defensive end Michael Sam announced that he was gay, he immediately snagged an endorsement deal with Visa. Frameline, the San Francisco LGBTQ film festival, is highlighting the changing nature of sexuality in sports with “Game Changers,” its series of six films featuring LGBTQ athletes. We’ll get a preview of the films and discuss the dynamic landscape of gay, bisexual and transgender athletes in sports.
