Do women need to undergo an annual pelvic exam? Maybe not, according to a new paper published this week by the American College of Physicians. The study concludes that annual screenings cause unnecessary pain and discomfort and are not effective in detecting cancers. We’ll hear from health professionals about the pros and cons of annual pelvic exams.

Guests:

Barbara Levy, vice president of health policy at The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

George Sawaya, professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at UCSF and co-author of the editorial accompanying the American College of Physician's paper
