After serving on President Obama’s transition team in 2008, author and professor David Kirp asked what a realistic policy agenda — that put the needs of children first — would look like. K-12 education was too focused on testing and boosting reading and achievement scores, and not focused enough on the lives of children. In his new book, “Kids First,” Kirp sets out to change that. He proposes five big ideas for transforming children’s lives — and putting the focus back where it belongs.

Guests:

David L. Kirp, professor and former acting dean at the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley
