“When you’re in this class, you’re no longer Setsuko. You are Lucy.”

Setsuko is 55, single, and an “office lady” in Tokyo. When her niece convinces her to take an English language class, Setsuko’s American teacher gives her a blond wig and a new identity: Lucy. As Lucy, Setsuko discovers desires she never knew she had — but is shaken when her instructor suddenly disappears.

Written and directed by Atsuko Hirayanagi. The film was a Cinéfondation Selection at the 2014 Cannes International Film Festival and won the Wasserman Award at Tisch Asia’s 2014 First Run Film Festival. Principal Cast: Kaori Momoi, Miyoko Yamaguchi, Billy Scott, Rian Nagashima, and Keiichi Tsuda.
