Erica Liu

Erica Liu is a Taiwanese-American filmmaker originally from Los Angeles. In her undergraduate studies at UCLA, she double-majored in History and Political Science, and took an internship with the Glendale News-Press newspaper. Toiling away in the newsroom was how she first learned to appreciate the value and appeal of storytelling and narrative in ordinary life. After graduation, she spent several years working as a freelance photographer and graphic designer before attending NYU Tisch School of the Arts in Singapore to pursue her M.F.A. in film production.

Although she is a die-hard Angeleno, she has also spent extensive time abroad in London and Beijing. As a cinematographer, she has shot documentaries and short films throughout Indonesia and the Philippines. Liu’s second-year student film Springtime won 2nd Prize at First Run Film Festival 2013 and the Festival Award at Heartland Film Festival. The film was also accepted to Palm Springs International Film Festival and DC Shorts Fest. She is working on her thesis film to be shot in Taipei, about a young man who inherits the ancestral family spirit from his eccentric grandfather.
