The food at Chez Spencer was not up to the expectation per Check Please review. First the positive: Sweetbreads & Scallops were terrific. Now for the negatives: Filet Mignon had much grissle and when shown to the waiter, his only response was that some of them were like that. (Our party ordered 3 Filets) The desserts were mediocre. BUT now the real problem: When it came time for the check the bills were wrong — charges were incorrect for several items, but the real problem was that check total was more than $100 per couple higher than they should have been — $230 per couple. The waiter was unable to correct the bill, and it took the manager, Steven, nearly an HOUR, yes, an hour to finally FIX the charge slips so we could leave. Further no time during this impossibly long wait did the waiter, Florian (or Steven) ask if we’d like more coffee — a drink — anything — not an offer to adjust the bill due to the indeterminable wait. NOTHING And when it was finally resolved, an hour + later and this thoughtlessness was called to the manager’s attention, he asked if we’d like water..!! In our view this kind of service requires a response from Mr. Katgely, chef and owner. Steven and Florian tried hard to “get it right”. But we could not understand why there was no calculator available. SIGH
