Leslie SbroccoMy name is Leslie Sbrocco and I’m the host of Check, Please! Bay Area. Each week, I will be sharing my tasting notes about the wine the guests and I drank on set during the taping of the show.

Wines of the Week: KQED Wine Club
Our guests enjoyed these two delicious offerings from the KQED Wine Club.

2007 Bodega Lurton Pinot Gris, Valley de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
Made from grapes planted high above Mendoza in the Valle de Uco, this lush, rich style of Pinot Gris is produced at the Argentinean outpost of France’s famous Lurton family.

2004 Chateau Recougne, Bordeaux Superieur, France
Earthy flavors dominate this muscular wine. It’s a big red for those who crave a steak on the grill.

LOVE 2223 – agree the bread pudding is one of the best desserts and bread puddings in town. We’ve been going there since they opened and we’re never disappointed.

I’m really upset with you, Check Please. The Brown Sugar Kitchen was descended upon by your viewers. Us locals and regulars waited over an hour to be seated and another 40 minutes to get the fabulous Chicken & Waffles that have become a staple of many Oaklanders’ weekend meals. Tanya Holland will now be forced to relocate to a gargantuan space to accommodate your viewers and the vibe of my Oasis in the Industrial Hood will be changed forever.

HAHAHA!! Nice one, Monica. I took some friends there on a Sunday, and had to wait an hour and twenty minutes. But must admit that was before the “Check, Please! Bay Area” episode aired 😉 That place does pack ’em in though for sure. But we all know why!

Three of us went to Brown Sugar today on your recommendations and we were very disappointed. Puzzled why this ordinary restaurant gets any rave reviews at all. Limited menu. Items we ordered were no bargain (a minuscule biscuit costs at least $2). Waitress was defensive when we pointed this out, and service generally average. We won’t be back.

Disappointed- we took our daughter and her finace’to 2223 a few weeks ago. Service was not personable, and for the same price we’ve had bigger portions and better food.
