The Black Choreographers Festival (BCF) has been a force in Bay Area dance: launching careers, bringing in fresh influences, and creating a fiercely supportive community. For its 11th edition, BCF is busting out of Black History Month to offer events throughout the year. Their kick-off concerts showcase a typically spectacular range of voices, starting with the Next Wave Showcase (February 21 and 22, 2015) highlighting Phylicia Stroud, Byb Chanel Bibene, Delina Brooks, and the always provocative Brontez Purnell. The following weekend (February 28 and March 1), BCF’s main concert of established talents ranges from the tense postmodernism of former Lines Ballet star Maurya Kerr to the sassy jazz of Oakland’s Reginald Ray Savage. Also featured are Raissa Simpson, Gregory Dawson, and Robert Moses.
