Richmond plans to hold another Rosie the Riveter rally this summer and snatch back the Guinness World Record for largest Rosie the Riveter event from the grasp of Ypsilanti, Mich.
The East Bay city, which is also home to the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park, set the record last August with an event that attracted 1,084 women dressed as the WWII feminist icon. But just two months later, Ypsilanti held its own Rosie event and brought out 2,096 Rosies, setting a new record.
That only fired up the organizers of the Richmond event, who are ready to set a new record, and this time everybody is invited to help — including men. All you need is the required uniform: a red bandana with polka dots, a dark blue collared shirt and matching pants, boots and red socks. Don’t have those things lying around? The park’s visitor center will have “Rosie Rally Packs” available starting in June.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond. For more information on the event, visit rosietheriveter.org or their Facebook page.
