We all know it as the greatest Super Bowl halftime in history: Prince’s 2007 performance, which ended as the artist played “Purple Rain” in the most well-timed cloudburst in all of sports.
Lesser known is the press conference given at that year’s Super Bowl by Prince, who died today at age 57.
Halftime acts talking to sports reporters before the big game has always been awkward — witness Coldplay’s discomfort here — but Prince nipped the whole affair in the bud.
Instead of answering questions, Prince played a mini-concert for sports reporters. “Contrary to rumor, I’d like to take a few questions right now,” he says — and then rips into “Johnny B. Goode.”
