I love podcasts, especially podcasts created by ladies, for ladies. Galentine’s Day, the day before Valentine’s Day, is all about celebrating the gals in our lives. So consider putting “ovaries before brovaries,” as Leslie Knope would say, in your podcast queue this month.

Call Your Girlfriend

If you have any long distance Galentines, then you know how hard it can be to keep in touch. Hosts Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman are no strangers to moving around for their jobs in tech and journalism, respectively. Ending every podcast with the signoff “See you on the internet boo!” these long distance besties use the internet and podcasting to fuel their friendship. Kick back with your favorite vices and CYG’s segments: “Rapid-Fire News Round Up,” “This Week in Menstruation” and “Phone-A-Friend.” This podcast might just inspire you to pick up the phone and call your girlfriend.

Another Round

When the conversation flows as easily as the alcohol, you know you’ve got a good podcast in the making. Drinking buddies Heben Nigatu and Tracy Clayton of BuzzFeed share discussions of race and gender over bourbon. Sometimes they even pour a round with notable guests like Hillary Clinton. And no episode is complete without Clayton telling one of her terrible jokes. Love is in the air this month as the duo uses the podcast to orchestrate an old school dating game for Clayton. Listen in to hear who bachelor number one may be.

Being Boss

Created for boss ladies by boss ladies, this podcast will motivate you to get down to business in all areas of your life. According to hosts Emily Thompson and Kathleen Shannon, it all starts with doing the work — bad news for Bay Area residents trying to absorb creative entrepreneurship by osmosis. As bosses of Indie Shopography Design and Strategy Studio and Braid Creative and Consulting, Thompson and Shannon talk the talk and walk the walk. Whether you’re waiting to quit your day job, hustling on the side or balancing work and life, these ladies will inspire you to take charge of your creative endeavors.

Stuff Mom Never Told You

If we’re really going to put “uteruses before duderuses” as Leslie Knope (also) suggests, we should listen to Cristen Conger and Caroline Ervin from HowStuffWorks.com. With over 300 episodes, you may be surprised by just how much your mom never told you. But before you blame your upbringing, consider that medical professionals only recently recognized the full structure of the clitoris. Examining biology, psychology and sociology, these ladies don’t leave anything out.

One Bad Mother

Moms are gals too! Listen to Biz Ellis and Theresa Thorn’s comedic and often explicit perspectives on motherhood. With a healthy dose of foul language, this podcast is not for family listening. If you think there should be more laughing and less judging in discussions of parenthood, you are the target audience. Whether you are a mom, have mom friends, or just want to gain a greater appreciation for the moms in your life, there is no right or wrong way to listen. Ellis and Thorn offer interviews, stories and advice while embracing all that is bad about being a mother — especially being a bad ass.
