Saturday, Dec. 5: Tommy Castro & the Painkillers at the Mystic Theatre, Petaluma. The veteran bluesman and his band play songs from their recent album, Method to My Madness. Saturday, Dec. 5: The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir’s 30th Anniversary Holiday Concert at the Paramount Theatre, Oakland. The choir has been celebrating its 30th anniversary all year– including stops in Europe at the Montreux and Molde jazz festivals — culminating with a special (and nearly sold out) hometown show featuring host Carl Lumbly. Monday, Dec. 7: ‘An American Christmas’ featuring Deborah Voigt with the San Francisco Girls Chorus at Davies Symphony Hall, SF. We’re officially in the holiday season, so there are lots of special concerts and shows to see — one of your best bets is Voigt, a soprano, performing a Christmas program with this renowned girls’ chorus. Thursday, Dec. 10 – Sunday, Dec. 13: The Bad Plus Joshua Redman at SFJAZZ. This collaboration-centric jazz trio and perhaps Berkeley’s best-loved saxophonist teamed up for an album in 2015, and are finally bringing their live show back home to the Bay — where both have deep roots. They play Santa Cruz’s Kuumbwa Jazz Center Wednesday night before hitting SFJAZZ for a four-night run. Details here.
Now through May 29, 2016: ‘In Focus: Group F/64 and the Bay Area’ at the Mills College Art Museum, Oakland. This exhibit of 30 photos from the collective F/64 includes works by Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Brett and Edward Weston, and other early 20th century Bay Area photographers, with a NorCal point of view — and curated by Mills Museum Studies students.
