Cy and David's Weekly Picks: The Shook Twins, 'The Method Gun,' and More

Now through Dec. 13: ‘The Monster-Builder’ at the Aurora Theatre, Berkeley. A black comedy from the very funny playwright Amy Freed gets its second run of shows in Freed’s hometown, after debuting at Artists Rep in Portland. Details here. 

Friday, Nov. 13 – Saturday, Nov. 14 plus Nov. 19 -22: Rude Mechs Presents ‘The Method Gun’ at Z Space, San Francisco, and ‘Stop Hitting Yourself’ at the Zellerbach Playhouse, Berkeley. The first Bay Area appearance by this boundary-pushing Austin theater company, founded by Mac Wellman, sees an ambitious cocktail of works on both sides of the bay. Friday, Nov. 13, Saturday, Nov. 14, and Wednesday, Nov. 18: The Shook Twins at Moe’s Alley, Santa Cruz; Leo’s, Oakland; and the Hopmonk Tavern, Sebastopol, respectively. This indie duo, made up of actual identical twins, plays bluegrassy folk with a soulful beat. Details here. 

Opening Saturday, Nov. 14: Janet Cardiff’s ’40-Part Motet’ at Fort Mason, San Francisco. Immersive art meets 16th century British church music in this deconstruction of how art and technology mix, with 40 singers recorded separately, played simultaneously on individual speakers. Details here. 

Saturday, Nov. 14: Tish Hinojosa at the Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy, San Pablo. The traditional Mexican/Texan country crooner performs with Los Cenzontles at the band’s Mexican Arts Center for just $15. Details here.
