Now through Oct. 17: Lizzie. Lizzie Borden, the anti-hero of a grisly nursery rhyme, gets a kind of revisionist musical treatment, featuring show tunes and some punk rock, at the Ray of Light theater. Details here.

Friday, Oct. 2 – Sunday, Oct. 4: Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. The best free music festival in the West returns to Golden Gate Park for its 15th year, with an eclectic lineup of locals (Sonny and the Sunsets, the Stone Foxes) as well as big names from across the country. Details here. 

Friday, Oct. 2 – Sunday, Oct. 4: Las Cafeteras at MACLA in San Jose. Chicano pride, with catchy rhythms, this band follows in the footsteps of San Pablo’s Los Cenzontles — which pioneered this fresh look at traditional Mexican folk music. Details here. 

Sunday, Oct. 4: The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra Season Opener. Conductor Nicholas McGegan begins his 30th year with the Orchestra this fall, and they’re celebrating with a rediscovered Serenade (Serenata) by Scarlatti, featuring tenor Nicholas Phan. Details here. 

Opening Wednesday, Oct. 7: Intersection for the Arts 50th Anniversary Archive Show. A show organized by curator Lexa Walsh to celebrate both the center’s history as a refuge for anti-Vietnam War protesters, and artistic successes, as well as its failures, including last year’s financial challenges — this multi-layered installation explores Intersection’s history, warts and all.
