Now through Sept. 6: Cal Shakes Presents ‘The Mystery of Irma Vep.’ Jon Moscone is one of the Bay Area’s very best directors, and he’s led the California Shakespeare Theater in Orinda for 15 years, producing really first quality work by Shakespeare and increasingly a more diverse set of playwrights. He’s leaving for a new job —but going out with a bang, directing Charles Ludlam’s energetic comedy. Details here.

Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15: A Requiem for Oneself: The San Francisco Choral Society Sings Mozart. Conductor Robert Geary guides the society, the California Chamber Symphony, and a first rate set of soloists through two of Mozart’s greatest works. Details here.

Friday, Aug. 14 – Saturday, Aug. 15: The Watkins Family Hour. Think of this family band as a reincarnation of a ’30s-era radio show out of Appalachia —  or what you’d hear in your living room, if you belonged to a family of bluegrass stars. Details here.

Sunday, Aug. 16 – Monday, Aug. 17: Cayucas. The band named for the sleepy San Luis Obispo town brings their dreamy new record to Santa Cruz and SF. Details here.

Aug. 22 – Oct. 5: Laughs Can Be Fatal: Robert Arneon at the Cantor. Benicia-born high art satirist Robert Arneson’s weird, wonderful sculptures are on view. Details here.
