Hundreds of dumpling fans across the Bay Area descended on Dumpling Wars in Oakland last Sunday. The third annual dumpling cook-off pitted old family recipes against unconventional new concoctions that blended eastern and western influences.

This year’s theme, “Game of Noms,” challenged competitors to riff on the a Game of Thrones theme.  “In addition to being foodies, a lot of us are nerds as well,” says T.J. Basa of Kearny Street Workshop, the competition organizer.
