You can’t talk about Bay Area concerts in August without acknowledging the biggest of them all, the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, which returns to Golden Gate Park August 9-11, 2013. The festival is sold out, and with good reason: the lineup offers everything from Paul McCartney and Nine Inch Nails to King Tuff and local bands like Thao & The Get Down Stay Down. Outside Lands isn’t the only festival this month, of course. There’s also the First City Festival in Monterey on August 24 and 25 (previewed in our last mixtape); that same Saturday in San Francisco, there’s the 20th Street Block Party, with Two Gallants and Mac DeMarco.

While festival season is in full swing, there are plenty of compelling non-festival shows in August as well. Jel‘s return with a new album is long overdue, but Late Pass arrives on Anticon this month; Jel’s release show at The New Parish finds him joined by Doseone, Main Attrakionz, and Odd Nosdam. The other local bands included in this episode are all new to the podcast. From the catchy soul of Myron & E to the layered electronic folk of There’s Talk, it’s easy to be excited about the wealth of local talent on display here.

Enjoy the podcast and then go see some concerts!
